Dare To Love Music was founded in Hollywood in June 2021 by Derrick and Lovisa Lightning - two award-winning, roaming multi-instrumentalists specializing in immersive music design. They’re known for their engaging roaming performances that captivate and connect.
The name "Dare To Love” subtly weaves in their own names while capturing their real-life journey from friends to partners to a married duo who ultimately “dared to love”. After crafting the soundtrack for their own wedding, they now pour that same passion into designing unforgettable musical experiences that tell the unique love story of every couple they celebrate.
Derrick has shared the stage with icons like Dave Grohl and George Thorogood, performed at Carnegie Hall, and recorded at The Hit Factory. Known for his vibrant energy, he loves interacting with guests and making every moment feel alive.
Lovisa has performed for royalty and collaborated with legends including Björn Ulvaeus of ABBA and Toots Thielemans. A versatile vocalist who effortlessly moves between jazz, soul, pop, rock, and R&B—captivating audiences with the emotional depth of her voice.
Together, the have performed for celebrities and toured across the US and Europe and performed on some of the world’s most renowned stages, from America’s Got Talent and Carnegie Hall to the Montreux Jazz Festival, the Troubadour, the Viper Room, Molly Malone’s, and The Mint. Their shared mission: to bring genuine love, connection, and world-class musicianship to every event they are a part of.
Our Musical Love Journey
Once upon a time, in a locked-down Hollywood during Covid, Derrick and Lovisa lived in the same city
- completely unaware of each other’s existence.
Lovisa carried both a fear and a dream: to write and perform her own music. Nights at the legendary old-Hollywood bar Black Rabbit Rose lit that spark. Surrounded by extraordinary artists, one performer stood out above the rest—Derrick.
His music was bold and vulnerable, humble yet outrageous, and impossible to ignore.
Moved by his fearless performance, Lovisa did something she hadn’t done in years. She wrote a song inspired by Derrick’s unique style and courage—and sent him a voice memo of herself singing it.
The song was called “Thank You.” Derrick was deeply touched by the lyrics and her voice. He wanted to hear more.
Their paths had crossed before. Derrick had played at Black Rabbit Rose as a sideman, while Lovisa watched from the audience.
But when she saw him playing on the side once again, she spoke with certainty.
“You’re meant to lead here,” she said.
“I’m not leaving until you ask the event planner for your own show.”
Fueled by her belief, Derrick did—and landed a date. On May 13, 2020, Derrick performed his original music
in Los Angeles for the very first time, with Lovisa as his singer.
From that moment on, Dare To Love was born.
In June 2021, their musical duo took its name—and its purpose and on April 12, 2022, in the very place their story began,
Derrick proposed to Lovisa during a live performance at Black Rabbit Rose after
performing their original song "Where Have You Been All My Life”.
One year later, they were married—bound by music, courage, and the power of daring to love.
Soon after, they welcomed their greatest Melody created so far: their daughter.
