Dare To Love Music was founded in Hollywood in June 2021 by Derrick and Lovisa Lightning - two award-winning, roaming multi-instrumentalists specializing in immersive music design. They’re known for their engaging roaming performances that captivate and connect.
The name "Dare To Love” subtly weaves in their own names while capturing their real-life journey from friends to partners to a married duo who ultimately “dared to love”. After crafting the soundtrack for their own wedding, they now pour that same passion into designing unforgettable musical experiences that tell the unique love story of every couple they celebrate.
Derrick has shared the stage with icons like Dave Grohl and George Thorogood, performed at Carnegie Hall, and recorded at The Hit Factory. Known for his vibrant energy, he loves interacting with guests and making every moment feel alive.
Lovisa has performed for royalty and collaborated with legends including Björn Ulvaeus of ABBA and Toots Thielemans. A versatile vocalist who effortlessly moves between jazz, soul, pop, rock, and R&B—captivating audiences with the emotional depth of her voice.
Together, the have performed for celebrities and toured across the US and Europe and performed on some of the world’s most renowned stages, from America’s Got Talent and Carnegie Hall to the Montreux Jazz Festival, the Troubadour, the Viper Room, Molly Malone’s, and The Mint. Their shared mission: to bring genuine love, connection, and world-class musicianship to every event they are a part of.
Once upon a time in Hollywood during Covid in a locked down city Derrick and Lovisa lived unaware of one another's existence.
One of Lovisa's biggest fears and, dreams was to write and perform her own music. The famous old-Hollywood bar, "Black Rabbit Rose", with its amazingly talented artists got Lovisa inspired, especially one - Derrick. He was like no one else with his talent, humbleness, outrageousness and amazing song writing. To express her gratitude, Lovisa wrote her first song in years inspired by Derrick's courageous and unique performance style and sent him a voice memo singing the song.
The name of the song was "Thank You". Derrick was touched by the lyrics and Lovisa's singing. He was curious to hear more.
Previously when playing at Black Rabbit Rose in Hollywood Derrick has played as a sideman with Lovisa watching in the audience.
Lovisa saw Derrick playing again on the side and proclaimed "you're going to play here as the leader.
I'm not leaving this place until you ask the event planner to perform here." Empowered by Lovisa's certainty he did and he got a show date! On May 13th 2020 Derrick performed his music in Los Angeles for the first time together with Lovisa as the singer.
Shortly after in June 2021 Dare To Love - their musical duo, was born.
On April 12th 2022, Derrick proposed to Lovisa during one of their performances at "Black Rabbit Rose”,
the first place they ever met. A year later Derrick and Lovisa were pronounced as husband and wife as they got married in the power of daring to love. Shortly after they gave birth to their lovely daughter - Melody.
